The December issue of the World of Petroleum and Bitumen
Emphasizing that Tehran refinery has minimal pollution due to gas fuel consumption, the CEO of Tehran Oil Refining Company stated: “In line with the cooperation with the environmental organization, the project of recovering gases sent to the environmental efficiency burner system in Tehran Oil Refining Company has been implemented.”
Referring to the environmental requirements for Tehran refinery, Hamed Armanfar said: “According to the negotiations with the Department of Environment, a requirement was formulated for Tehran refinery, based on which the Flare Gas Recovery (FGR) Project should be implemented with an environmental approach in accordance with the Clean Air Act.”
Stating that in the 1950s, Tehran refinery had a view of rising flare flames, but now with the measures taken, the intake has been reduced to flare gases, he added: “However, in order to cooperate with the Department of Environment, the FGR project was put on the agenda.”
The CEO of Tehran oil refinery added: “The project of recovering gases sent to the burner system will be implemented with an environmental approach in Tehran Oil Refining Company; its permit has been obtained from the board of directors, the basic and detailed studies has started and the project will soon enter the implementation phase.”
Armanfar stated that the General Inspection Organization of Tehran Province assigned the implementation of this project and we have accepted it; the necessary permission has been obtained and we have taken help from other refineries to shorten the work process in the field of basic studies, which is a big step forward. He added: “We will hold a limited tender and implement this project.”
He stated that Tehran refinery, in line with its social responsibilities, has taken great environmental steps to improve the quality of gasoline (CCR project) and to treat the sewage in southern Tehran, and the mega project to improve the quality of fuel oil will begin soon in this company. He said: “Meanwhile, Tehran Oil Refining Company has won the first environmental rank among the country's refining companies in 1401 of the solar calendar [equal to March 21, 2022 to March 20, 2023].”
In response to the question of how much the refinery's pollution is, the CEO of Tehran oil refinery said: “125 million cubic meters of gas are burned daily in Tehran, and the share of Tehran refinery is 0.08 %. The total fuel consumption of Tehran refinery is also gas, which means pollution in the minimum and standard range. Also, the consumption of fuel oil in this refinery has been stopped for more than two years and there is a special monitoring by the Department of Environment on this issue.”
According to Armanfar, in addition to the fact that there is an online analyzer in important furnaces and flue gas is monitored in real time, we have committed to implement the project of installing an online monitoring camera on the flare. In this regard, we have ordered the installation of several surveillance cameras to be installed on the flare, the images of which will be sent online to the General Inspection Organization of Tehran Province and the Department of Environment.
He clarified: “Currently, the amount of pollution in Tehran refinery is very low, and standard, because only gas is used as fuel in this refinery. This is while Tehran Oil Refining Company, regardless of media streaming done in relation to its managers and experts, continues in the production process while complying with environmental requirements, and has seriously prioritized serving the society as before in its goals and plans.”If the Canadian federal government enforces stringent regulations on emissions starting in 2030, the Canadian petroleum and gas industry could lose $ ...
