According to World of Petroleum and Bitumen (WPB), the European construction leader STRABAG has officially opened the largest bitumen emulsion production facility in Romania. Situated in Crișeni, Sălaj County, the plant was developed through a direct investment of nearly €2.2 million.
The facility is managed by SAT Reabilitare Reciclare, a STRABAG subsidiary focused on road recycling technologies. With a capacity of 15 tons per hour, the plant is designed to enhance the availability of high-performance bitumen emulsions required for modern road maintenance and rehabilitation.
Dr. Hans Kirchknopf, Technical Managing Director at SAT, emphasized that this development marks a key milestone in expanding the company’s influence in road recycling across Central and Eastern Europe. He highlighted the strategic role of the new facility in delivering efficient, sustainable, and technologically advanced infrastructure solutions.
Beyond boosting production, the initiative aligns with broader sustainability goals, reinforcing circular economy practices through material recovery, resource efficiency, and recycling. According to company officials, the facility will play a pivotal role in extending the lifespan and resilience of regional road networks.
SAT Reabilitare Reciclare, established in 2010 and headquartered in Cluj-Napoca, specializes in bitumen emulsion production as well as innovative maintenance techniques. Its portfolio includes asphalt and concrete milling, on-site and mobile road recycling, and structural stabilization—supporting modern infrastructure through sustainable practices.
