WPB: In a groundbreaking collaboration, SIKA AG, a global frontrunner in construction and roofing solutions, has secured a licensing agreement to incorporate Denmark-based Photocat’s patented technology into its SikaShield Pure-Air product range. This advanced bitumen waterproofing technology, designed to purify the air, directly addresses the global air pollution crisis that, according to WHO estimates, contributes to over 3 million deaths annually.
Photocat, a Danish leader in sustainable innovations, leverages photocatalysis to develop solutions aimed at improving air quality and fostering a healthier environment. Their patented technology allows bitumen membranes to achieve air-purifying properties through either spray-on methods during production or by using pre-coated granulates.
This strategic partnership aligns with Photocat’s mission to license its innovative technologies to global leaders while remaining steadfast in promoting environmental sustainability and public health.
Michael Humle, CEO of Photocat, shared his thoughts on the collaboration:
“We are honored that SIKA AG, a leader in its field, is adopting our technology. This partnership represents a major milestone in the journey toward cleaner air and sustainable roofing systems.”
Henrik Jensen, CTO of Photocat, emphasized the practical value of their NOxOFF technology:
“Our innovation proves its worth from concept to application. By reducing air pollution, we deliver not only economic advantages to cities but also tangible health benefits to their residents.”
As part of its strategy, Photocat is actively pursuing partnerships with influential industry players through licensing agreements and tailored solutions. The collaboration with SIKA AG highlights the scalability and relevance of Photocat’s air-purification technology on a global scale, further cementing Denmark’s role as a hub for environmental innovation.
