An Iranian knowledge-based company has introduced advanced fire extinguishing systems capable of extinguishing fires in oil tanks, refineries, or oil wells within one hour using minimal water. This system also allows firefighting teams to approach the fire site safely.
This product is based on water mist fire suppression systems, known globally as MVU. These systems are primarily used in the oil, gas, and petrochemical industries and for controlling fires in storage tanks or oil wells.
In the initial moments of a fire at oil wells or refineries, this system can reduce the fire's temperature from 1300 degrees Celsius to 350 degrees Celsius, which practically prevents damage to other facilities. This temperature reduction makes fire control and extinguishing operations easier, allowing firefighting teams to approach the fire safely.
The main advantage of this system is its significant reduction in water usage for firefighting. If it typically takes 2,000 liters of water to extinguish an oil well fire in 4 to 5 hours, this system can do it with 1,000 liters of water in one hour.
The system's reduced water consumption is due to its high energy absorption. Normally, cooling occurs as water heats up, but in this system, cooling happens as water cools down. The energy absorption difference between these two states is a thousand times, enabling the system to absorb more energy from the fire.
Additionally, this system uses water vapor to extinguish fires. Water vapor suffocates the fire by depleting oxygen at the fire site.
The system developed by this company simultaneously cools the environment and suffocates the fire. In previous systems, direct targeting of the fire source was necessary. Thus, firefighting teams focused more on cooling surrounding tanks to allow the fuel to burn out, taking 24 to 48 hours to extinguish the fire.
The presence of water usually exacerbates fires, but this system directly targets the burning tank. By keeping the environment cool, it eliminates the primary cause of the fire. This is similar to the foam fire extinguishing method.
This advantage allows for quicker and more efficient fire control. The system absorbs heat, cools the environment, and reduces the temperature from 40 degrees Celsius to 20-25 degrees Celsius without creating humidity. If the Canadian federal government enforces stringent regulations on emissions starting in 2030, the Canadian petroleum and gas industry could lose $ ...
