WPB informs that Kazakhstan has been experiencing intensive consumption of bitumen in the construction and maintenance of its road network since the beginning of 2025. Nearly 664.3 thousand tons of this valuable construction material has been consumed in national and regional highway projects.
What makes this success even more valuable is the country's reliance on its own industrial capacity. Out of the total, about 593.9 thousand tons were contributed by local oil-processing enterprises such as PNHZ, Kaspijskiy Bitum, Qazaq Bitum, and Asfaltobeton. To add to local production, 154.9 thousand tons were imported from nearby countries, reflecting the balance between self-sufficiency and foreign trade.
The significance of these numbers transcends the figures themselves. The extensive availability of locally produced bitumen says a lot for Kazakhstan's growing self-reliance in materials that are crucial to infrastructure. Such durability not only counters the reliance on imports but also serves to enhance the nation's ability to execute mega construction projects without enduring supply interruptions.
Bitumen, being one of the major elements in the production of durable road surfaces, provides strength, flexibility, and resistance to environmental pressure. By leveraging both local and imported resources, Kazakhstan is in a position to guarantee that road construction across different regions is well and constantly supplied. This approach is crucial in creating transport arteries capable of supporting economic growth, facilitating trade, and improving connectivity between urban centers and remote communities.
Last but not least, the extensive use of bitumen in 2025 shows the government's continued intention to modernize the transport sector. By building and rehabilitating roads, Kazakhstan is not only investing in infrastructure but also in the long-term economic development and regional integration of the nation.
