Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Marking a significant milestone in urban development, Indore has initiated the construction of white-topping roads, replacing conventional asphalt surfaces. This innovation makes Indore the first city in Madhya Pradesh to adopt this advanced road-building technology. The project, celebrated as a breakthrough in infrastructure, was launched at Dental College Square on AB Road by Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargav.
During the inauguration, Bhargav expressed pride in the city’s pioneering role, noting that the groundwork for the project began prior to Diwali and formal construction has now officially started. He emphasized that white-topping roads are designed to last between 20 and 50 years, significantly outlasting traditional asphalt roads, which require frequent maintenance. “If this initiative proves effective, we plan to gradually transition all asphalt roads in the city to this new technology,” Bhargav stated.
Key Features of White-Topping Technology
• Milling and Concrete Overlay: The process involves removing the top layer of old asphalt with advanced milling equipment and applying a thick layer of M-40 grade cement concrete reinforced with fiber sawdust. This method is efficient, conserving both time and resources.
• Faster Construction: New techniques allow for quick road building with minimal traffic disruption, enabling roads to be ready for use within hours.
• Enhanced Longevity: Seamless integration between new and existing road sections ensures greater durability, eliminating the need for lengthy curing times.
Future Vision for Indore’s Roads
Bhargav outlined plans to upgrade the city’s asphalt roads, particularly the 10% that currently require annual repairs. By adopting white-topping technology, these roads can be permanently improved, reducing ongoing maintenance costs and elevating the overall standard of the city’s infrastructure.
“Indore is not just leading Madhya Pradesh but is setting a benchmark for the entire nation in road construction advancements,” the mayor concluded, emphasizing the transformative potential of this initiative.
