The December issue of the World of Petroleum and Bitumen
WPB: REV LNG, a prominent energy services provider, has successfully completed its inaugural liquefied natural gas (LNG) refuelling operation for McAsphalt Marine Transportation Limited, a Canadian company specializing in bitumen transport.
The vessel, named McAsphalt Advantage, has been designed to ensure efficient and reliable transportation of bitumen within the Great Lakes, the St. Lawrence Seaway, and international markets.
David Kailbourne, the CEO of REV LNG, expressed enthusiasm about this achievement, emphasizing its importance. “Delivering the initial LNG supply to the Advantage marks a major step for our company and signifies the growing presence of LNG-powered ships navigating the Great Lakes and the eastern seaboard.”
Since 2020, REV LNG has conducted over 50 LNG bunkering operations at Ontario’s Port of Hamilton, further solidifying its position in the region’s maritime industry.
Apart from McAsphalt, REV LNG also supplies LNG to Petro-Nav Desgagnés, a company operating five Canadian-flagged vessels across the Great Lakes, the St. Lawrence Seaway, Eastern Canada, the United States, and the Canadian Arctic.
Ian Hamilton, President and CEO of the Hamilton-Oshawa Port Authority, celebrated the milestone, highlighting its significance for sustainable shipping in Canada. “This achievement underscores the increasing adoption of environmentally conscious marine technologies within the Great Lakes shipping industry. It also reaffirms our dedication to fostering partnerships that promote innovative fuel solutions in this region.”
Founded in 2013 as a small-scale delivery operation, REV LNG has grown to become a leading developer and operator of LNG, compressed natural gas (CNG), and renewable natural gas (RNG) in the United States.
